Emmys 2013: ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Bryan Cranston says win honors show crew

As Jesse Pinkman yearned to see the stars in Sunday’s episode of “Breaking Bad,” the cast of the soon-to-be-finished AMC drama found themselves the luminous point of Emmys night.

The gritty series took home the prize for best drama at the end of the night -- the first in the critically acclaimed drama’s five-season run.

“This is the answer to wishes and prayers of mine,” Bryan Cranston, who plays villainous Walter White, told reporters backstage. “I’ve been blessed in the past. But I really wanted [the show to win]. We get to celebrate the entire writing [staff], crew and cast. This if for all the crew that has worked so hard for us for all these years. This is one hell of a party.”

And even though Cranston and co-pilot Aaron Paul, who plays the street savvy student-turned-partner-turned nemesis Jesse Pinkman, went home empty-handed, the acting categories weren’t a total loss for the show. Anna Gunn, who plays the polarizing Skylar, found some vindication with her win in the supporting actress category -- putting the Skylar haters in their place.

“I’m glad there are people out there who enjoy Skylar,” she told reporters backstage. But will it fuel the Skylar haters to new heights? “The Skylar haters do what they do.”

Later in the evening, we spotted Paul at the HBO after party. When we reminded him that we’re just one week away from the 75-minute series finale, Paul could only shake his head with sadness.

“It’s so surreal,” he told us. “I don’t want to sleep because I don’t want Sunday night to ever come.”
