Ben Affleck to Jon Stewart: ‘Copycat’

Share

Ben Affleck had a bit of an ax to grind with Jon Stewart when he stopped by “The Daily Show” on Tuesday. And he wasted no time in bringing it up.

“You directed a movie, right?” Affleck asked. “A movie called ‘Rosewater,’ is that right?”

Stewart indeed made his directorial debut with the film that is scheduled to open in November. It follows the false imprisonment of a journalist in Iran and his ordeals there.

“But did you know I did a movie about Iran?” Affleck said. He won the Oscar for best picture in 2013 for the film “Argo.”

“I’m trying to think if there’s a less baby-ish word than copycat,” Affleck said. He then revealed the original title for his film was “Argrosewater.”

Obviously, this was a bit. But then Stewart retaliated with a bit of film spoilerage.

“So in ‘Gone Girl’ [Affleck] kills his wife and then in ‘Batman vs. Superman,’ Superman defeats Batman,” Stewart said.

Affleck was seemingly outraged in ways that aren’t completely printable here.

“Are you kidding me?” he yelled.

But did Stewart really spoil both films? “Gone Girl” opens Friday, while “Batman vs. Superman” won’t open until 2016. The truth will be known soon.

Guess that’s what you get for calling Jon Stewart a copycat. The rest of the interview can be seen here, including Stewart’s prediction of what the fight between Batman and Superman will look like.
