Can Lindsay Lohan refashion her flagging career in the mode of Jay Leno? Doubtful, but she’s giving it the old college try next week by guest hosting Chelsea Handler’s E! late night talk show “Chelsea Lately.”

Lohan, whose most recent starring role in director Paul Schrader’s “The Canyons” went straight to video on demand this week, will be sitting in for Handler on Monday, Aug. 5. This is a full-on hosting gig, with Lohan expected to lead the panel discussion and conduct an interview with a celebrity guest, who hasn’t been announced yet.

Handler has used guest hosts before, including Dave Grohl and Ross Matthews, but Lohan’s appearance brings with the the highest curiosity factor. Will she lose it mid-interview? Will she walk off mid-taping? Will she show up at all?

Lohan’s appearance will come just five days after her release from a 90-day rehab stay ordered by the court after a 2012 car accident. But don’t expect Lohan to provide all kinds of deep insights on the “Chelsea” spot -- she’s already been booked to sit down with Oprah Winfrey on OWN for a probing discussion of her life.

Following the Winfrey appearance, which is supposed to air in early August, she’ll be the subject of an eight-part documentary series, scheduled to air on OWN in 2014, according to Entertainment Weekly.
