Whoopi Goldberg says there’s nothing to ‘View’ drama rumors

Whoopi Goldberg has heard all the same scuttlebutt about tensions at “The View” you have, and she doesn’t get it.

“You get four chicks and people expect you to fight,” Goldberg told David Letterman when she stopped by “Late Show” on Thursday.

“Nobody ever asks those questions of the guys,” she continued. “You get five guys on ESPN and maybe they’re sniping at each other, but nobody says ‘Aw, the dudes are fighting.’”

The current “View” lineup includes Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace. There have been reports online of tensions between the cast members, especially between Goldberg and O’Donnell.

But tensions on “The View” are nothing new. There have always been rumors of backstage drama on the show, which has aired on ABC since 1997.

“In my experience, all my life I’ve been in a position where people have yelled at me,” Letterman said. “Mostly because I’m incompetent... I’m accustomed to people yelling at me. And I will yell at other people. But it doesn’t mean we’re walking off the edge of the earth.”

Letterman then made up a rumor that former host Barbara Walters once put a fellow panelist in a sleeper hold backstage after they had a disagreement.

“Barbara doesn’t play,” Goldberg agreed. “She will put you out.”
