Footwear phenom Nicholas Kirkwood has been in L.A., soaking up the sunshine and mingling with his star fans.

The British shoe designer made big news late last year when luxury conglomerate LVMH acquired a stake in his 10-year-old brand. He was celebrated at a “Welcome to L.A.” dinner Thursday night at Hotel Bel Air. Emma Roberts, Jaime King, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, Liz Goldwyn and Rachel Zoe mingled on the flower-filled terrace where dinner was served.

Inside was a display of Kirkwood’s fall 2014 collection of shoes, some with chrome heels or jacquard accents.

One admirer? China Chow, who was back in L.A. after a few weeks traveling with her father, Michael Chow (Mr. Chow), in Hong Kong where he recently opened a solo exhibition of paintings, his first in 50 years. (The show will travel to New York next.)

I enjoyed meeting Heather Taylor, the talented L.A.-based gallerist-turned-home accessories designer, after discovering that I already have a set of her god’s eye embroidered cocktail napkins in my house. Taylor is in the midst of creating a full lifestyle collection, with scarves available now.

Zoe was fresh off the plane from New York City, where Tiffany & Co. hosted a swanky dinner party to celebrate her new book, “Living in Style.”

And Vogue West Coast Editor Lisa Love was chatting up Edward Droste of the band Grizzly Bear.

Droste, who recently made the move from Brooklyn to L.A., has a cool style; he was wearing a green shirt and colorful sweater by one of his favorite labels, the Danish men’s wear brand Soulland.

Most of the ladies were in Kirkwood’s shoes (and some of the men too; Kirkwood launched his men’s collection with a few styles last year).

The designer seemed to be having the time of his life. He said, “I definitely have to start getting out here more.”

Nicholas Kirkwood’s collection is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
