Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2014: Stella McCartney review

Share

PARIS -- Stella McCartney showed her spring 2014 collection Monday morning at the gilded Opera Garnier.

The inspiration: Understated seduction. Fluid silhouettes playing on transparency and opacity, according to show notes.

The look: Sweet in the City, with an earthy palette of navy, brick, chalk and blue.

Key pieces: Cap-sleeve dresses with sheer skirts and subtle slashes providing natural air conditioning. Liquid silk pants suits. Organza dresses with a crocodile pattern effect. Silk satin shirts, blazers and pants with utilitarian, O-ring zipper details. Flared skirts with elastic waists. Matte knitwear. Gorgeous layered lace slip dresses in different hues of blue. Framed clutch bags in lace or print. Chunky sandals on lug soles, or wooden marble stiletto heels.

The verdict: Utterly charming but also completely down-to-earth. One of McCartney’s most wearable collections in recent memory.
