Shop arts and crafts, shop at new stores, shop deals or shop for charity this week

Shopping choices abound this season in Southern California, with new stores opening, retailers hosting charitable fundraisers, craft markets popping up and more.

Here’s a sampling:

Openings

Luxury optical retailer Vitra Eyewear has opened at South Coast Plaza, 3333 Bear St., Costa Mesa. The store includes a “transparent” lab in the main window where customers can watch opticians create prescription lenses. Vitra has a full selection of artisan-made, rare and high-fashion eyewear, including frames for prescriptions and sunglasses. The store is on Level 1 of the Crate & Barrel wing, across from the Apple store.

COS opened Nov. 20 at the Beverly Center, marking the European clothier’s second store in the Los Angeles area. The retailer is part of the Swedish-owned H&M Group and offers fashion for men and women. The Beverly Center is at 8500 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles.

San Francisco womenswear retailer Cuyana’s pop-up in Venice was so successful that the brand has decided to convert the space into a permanent store. Cuyana Venice is located at 1140 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

KAA Design and artworxLA are sponsoring an evening of shopping at Kitson on Melrose from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday to benefit artworxLA, which brings the arts to alternative schools in an effort to engage students and curb dropout rates. Twenty percent of sales proceeds during the event will go to benefit artworxLA. Kitson is at 8590 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles.

Bloomingdale’s in Santa Monica and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics are co-sponsoring a day of shopping for charity from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday with 10% of proceeds earmarked to benefit the UCLA teen cancer unit. Shoppers can enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks while they shop and will receive gift bags from Bloomingdale’s and Bobbi Brown. The store is at 315 Colorado Ave., Santa Monica.

360 Cashmere and author-blogger Katherine Schwarzenegger are teaming up on Saturday to host a shopping event benefiting Love Leo Rescue, which works to save abused or neglected dogs. Twenty percent of the day’s proceeds will be donated to Love Leo. The event is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. at 360 Cashmere, 23405 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu.

The Pomona Harvest Festival Original Art and Craft Show is scheduled this weekend at the Fairplex. More than 300 exhibitors are expected at the event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Building 4 at the fairgrounds at 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona. Tickets, available online, are $9 for ages 18 to 61, $7 for adults 62 and over, $4 for ages 13 to 17 and free for 12 and younger.

Rachel Pally is having a warehouse sale this weekend featuring fall and holiday styles at 60% to 75% off with sizes ranging from XS to 3X. The sale will be at 201 S. Anderson St., Los Angeles. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Five women’s clothing and accessory brands -- the Great, Janessa Leone, Freda Salvador, EF Collection and eberjey -- are having a holiday sample sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Lightbox Studio, 7122 Beverly Blvd., first floor, Studios 1 and 2 in L.A. No purses allowed.

Jewelry brand Metalepsis Projects is co-hosting a pop-up sale this weekend with fashion and accessory labels Cosette, Fuggiamo, Estilo Collective and Starling. The sale begins with a preview from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 7306 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles.

Whitney Eve has scheduled a sample sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 833 S. Spring St., Suite 202, Los Angeles.

Line + Dot’s winter sample sale is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2807 S. Santa Fe, Vernon. Prices will be up to 70% off.

Holiday House by Beyond Yoga is a three-day sample sale that includes complimentary classes, workshops and refreshments as well as workout apparel reduced to $15 to $30. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at One Roof, 1335 6th Ave., Venice. Click here for a full schedule of workshops and classes.

Ted Baker London is having a sample sale featuring men’s and women’s clothing and accessories from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Cooper Design Space, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Suite Mezz 3.

TRUNK SHOWS

Canadian handbag and accessories designer Jen Yau will be showing her One Fated Knight line of bags from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Show Pony Boutique, 8363 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles. OFK merchandise will be 20% off.

Broome St. Registry & Atelier hosts jeweler Ariel Gordon from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. All pieces in the collection will be 15% off. The event is at 2945 Rowena Ave., Los Angeles.

POP-UPS

Toms has popped up at Harper Salon on Melrose for the holiday season. In the spirit of Toms’ buy-one, give-one model, for every optical and handbag purchase at the pop-up, one pair of glasses and/or one handbag will be given to a Syrian refugee. In addition, 20% of sales proceeds are to go to International Medical Corps to provide medical relief to those fleeing conflict and to train local healthcare workers to help them. The pop-up is scheduled to operate through Jan. 6 at Harper, 8259 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles.

Sabah shoes handcrafted in Turkey will be popping up beginning Thursday through Dec. 20 at 1617 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Footwear brand Creative Recreation plans to open a pop-up shop beginning Thursday though Jan. 3 at the Liberty Concept Space, 8366 ½ W. 3rd St., Los Angeles. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).

Pop-up fairs Parachute Market and Northern Grade have teamed with retailers in Los Angeles’ Arts District for a three-day “Shop the Block” event Thursday through Sunday. The event includes shopping, eating and live music in an area bordered by Traction Avenue, Santa Fe Avenue, 3rd Street and 4th Street. Hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Friday for Northern Grade and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday for both Northern Grade and Parachute Market.
