Glenn Close was dressed to win at the 91st Academy Awards — in a dress she said weighed 42 pounds. She won’t be twinning with a gold statuette this time. (Olivia Colman won lead actress award for “The Favourite” on Sunday.)

For the Oscars, “The Wife” actress chose a gold gown designed by Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera. The long-sleeved, robe-like design had a simple V-neck and flap pockets in the front. In the back, however, the built-in cape flowed into a long train. (And perhaps, it was too obvious in the big picture of the evening.)

Nominated seven times by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Close has yet to win.

As for what happens after the Oscars ceremony, Close is going to blend in with the starry night. Italian luxury label Giorgio Armani announced that she has chosen to wear a custom Armani Privé black silk tulle cape entirely embroidered with crystals over a crystal-encrusted black silk cady bustier and trousers.
