Shopping: Yoga wear and more in I Am Beyond line

Special to the Los Angeles Times

For Jodi Guber, yoga has always been more of a lifestyle than a mere fitness endeavor. Which is why the designer and certified yoga instructor recently retooled and renamed her yoga-inspired clothing line, Beyond Yoga, to reflect what it’s gradually evolved into — a comfort-based lifestyle brand with an athletic component.

The rechristened label, I am Beyond, still offers the high-quality clingy yoga pants, support bras and ribbed tanks that made it a favorite among fitness-fanatic celebs including Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively.

But now Guber’s amped up the fashion component with cozy-but-trendy daywear pieces including jersey jackets, harem pants, cowl-neck tunics and dresses.

“I feel like today’s woman, more than ever, wants it all,” said Guber, who’s the daughter of movie mogul Peter Guber. “And I feel like our line is what that’s about. You go to yoga in quilted knee-length capris, then after yoga you throw on a Lanvin ballet slipper and you look totally chic.”

Guber, who grew up in Hollywood struggling with her body image (“I had to work really hard to find a way to dress to fit the part and still feel sexy and good among the celebrities,” she said) offers the collection in sizes 0 through 16 (XL), noting, “I’m not interested in just being a fashion line. I’m interested in being a go-to resource for women. My [customer] will also shop at Target and buy a Dior dress.… It’s for the couch potato and the major workout girl.”

Prices range from $49 for a tank top to $128 for knit harem pants.
