Green Festival to showcase eco-fashion, other wares this weekend

The Green Festival is bringing eco-fashion, organic food and other earth-friendly wares to Los Angeles this weekend. The event is scheduled for the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday. Some highlights include designer Rebecca Mink’s “California Dreaming: An Eco-Fashion Show” at 6 p.m. Saturday on the main stage, and a panel discussion at 2 p.m. Saturday on the Green Living Stage featuring Kelsey Timmerman, author of “Where Am I Wearing?”; Chris Yura, founder of Sustain U Clothing; and Heather Franzese of Fair Trade U.S.A.

Also scheduled to appear are actors Esai Morale, Ed Begley Jr. and Edward James Olmos and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.

Tickets are $10 for a one-day pass and $15 for a full weekend pass when purchased online (plus fees) and $15 and $25 at the door. Discounted admission at the door for seniors over 65 and students with student ID. Free admission for anyone who rides a bike to the event and parks with the bike valet, people under 18, union members, volunteers and Green America and Global Exchange members.

The convention center is at 1201 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles.

Events

J. Crew at The Grove plans a shopping party from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday featuring the brand’s head of women’s design, Tom Mora, fashion stylist Mary Alice Haney, Lucky West Coast editor Marlien Rentmeester and caterer Lulu Powers. Items from the fall/holiday 2012 collections will be available, with a 20% discount on purchases over $150. Cocktails will be served at the event, co-sponsored by Vogue. RSVP to (323) 939-1070. Bring your children while you shop at Rebecca Taylor on Saturday. The stores on Robertson in L.A. and Fashion Island in Newport Beach will have artists on hand to paint silhouettes of kids -- in neon colors instead of traditional black and white. The portraits are free. The event is to take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the stores at 107 S. Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles, and 567 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach.

Sample sales

A.L.C. plans a sample sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Cooper Building, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Lobby J, in Los Angeles. Cash preferred, credit cards accepted. The brand is offering an additional 10% off for Facebook fans and Twitter followers.

Fluxus has scheduled its annual holiday sample sale Thursday through Sunday at 170 E. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Deals start at $10. Cash preferred, 10% surcharge on credit cards, no promotional offers or gift cards accepted.

AG is offering men’s and women’s apparel, with all sizes available, at its sample sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Cooper Building, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Mezzanine 2, Los Angeles. Cash and credit cards accepted. All sales final.

The News Showroom has scheduled its first L.A. sample sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Cooper Building, Lobby F, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles. Labels included Cheap Monday, Anniel , Clu and Eternal Child.

Warehouse sales

Lucca Couture, Isabel Lu and A+RO have teamed up for a warehouse sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 629 E. 30th St., Los Angeles. In addition to the sale, there will be $25 mystery bags available to purchase which may contain tops, bottoms, dresses or jackets. Cash only and no returns.

Dosa’s pre-holiday warehouse sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the sixth floor of 850 S. Broadway, Los Angeles. Indigo plaid and stripes from the spring 2012 collection will be available at wholesale prices along with an array of indigo overdyed camisoles, slip dresses, pants, skirts and blouses. Styles from the spring and traveller 2011 collections will also be available.

Trunk shows

Hong Kong designer Marie France Van Damme’s resort collection of caftans, swimwear and accessories wil be available at her first Los Angeles trunk show this week, with items priced 20% off. Hours are 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Boa Gallery, 8459 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood. Email for an appointment.

Openings

Sarar, founded in Turkey in 1944, has opened a West Coast menswear flagship at Sunset Plaza, 8710 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Monrow has opened its first pop-up shop at Space 15 Twenty, 1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles. The pop-up is expected to be open through the end of November from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Marimekko’s new Beverly Hills store opens to the public on Friday. The store offers fashion and housewares in the Finnish label’s bold patterns and hues. The store is at 370 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills.
