Busy Philipps, Zoe Saldana, Solange Knowles, Christa B. Allen, Frank Ocean and more stepped out to celebrate at the Levi’s 501 140-year anniversary party at the Ace Museum in Los Angeles on Friday. The space for the pre-Grammys event was transformed into a 3-D multimedia timeline of Levi’s history and intimate concert venue, with the stage at one end and denim installations decorating the museum.

Grammys 2013: Best and worst dressed

The installations outlined major years in the denim brand’s history, beginning with the patent of the first blue jeans in 1873. Scrolls of white paper on the ground were printed with the brand’s heritage while TVs played old shows, and pictures of people wearing the denim lined the walls. Various styles of jeans were strewn across the museum. Of course, they included the newest 501s, available in non-denim twill and colors including mineral red and ivy green.

The cool-kid Hollywood set made up most of the crowd, who upon arrival made a beeline for the two open bars before browsing the installations. The dress code on the invitation read “501” and for the most part, guests complied. M83 got heads bobbing with a DJ set before Frank Ocean came on.

Around 11 p.m., the lights dimmed and Ocean took the stage in jeans and a varsity jacket. He serenaded a sea of flannel shirts, denim jackets and Levi’s-clad hipsters in darkness -- blaming his nerves for the lack of light. After a 30-minute set he flashed a peace sign and the lights came on.
