American Tea Room, the company known for its extensive collection of rare teas from around the globe, is opening a location in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District. The company plans to start construction next month and open in February.

The downtown American Tea Room will be the store’s second Los Angeles location, with the first opening in Beverly Hills in 2003. The 5,600-square-foot downtown space will include a large tasting room and oasis garden tea lounge. It will be located at Santa Fe Avenue between Violet and Bay streets.

There will be a cafe menu with soup, salads, sandwich and pastries and the company plans to secure a full liquor license.

The location will also house the company’s corporate offices and online headquarters where the brand will manage its Internet tea business.

The company also plans to renovate the Beverly Hills store to include both indoor and outdoor seating, an expanded retail space, a more comprehensive food menu and add beer and wine.

CEO and founder David Barenholtz says he’s looking to expand further with additional stores in Los Angeles, Orange County and New York City by 2015.
