Chaya Brasserie Beverly Hills will celebrate the restaurant’s 30th anniversary with a special two-night event. Michelin-star chef Kuniaki Kozuka, from the original Chaya in Japan, will visit the kitchen Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 for a collaboration dinner with Shigefumi Tachibe to prepare a special seven-course prix-fixe menu. His dishes will showcase rare ingredients from Japan along with locally sourced ingredients. Menu items include arare-crusted sesame agedashi tofu with steamed sea urchin, cured kombu, Hokkaido halibut with julienned kelp, seared big eye tuna with crispy onions and ginger, grilled Wagyu with forest mushroom rice, and lotus root mochi wrapped in bamboo leaf. The meal with be served on custom-tailored dishware from Airta, Japan. The menu is $155 per person. Wine pairings are an additional $40. Reservations are strongly recommended. Cafe del Rey in Marina del Rey will debut a new “Permission to Come Aboard” bi-annual package for seafood lovers Saturday. The package will include a half-day fishing expedition and a dinner at the restaurant highlighting the fresh catch of the day. The cost is $40 per person for the 1/2 day fishing trip or $80 for fishing and dinner. The dinner menu will include hors d’oeuvres, Kenwood sparkling wine, yam soup with coconut milk and curry, a Caesar salad, organic free range chicken and polenta, sweet potato gnocchi and the catch of the day prepared family style. The first annual Taste of Culver City will take place Sunday at the Mar Vista Family Center. From 2 to 5 p.m. guests will be able to taste food from 15 businesses around town including RUSH Street, Public School 310, La Rocco’s Pizzeria, Hikari, Chipotle, Which Wich, Daphne’s, Honey’s Kettle, LYFE Kitchen, Signature Burger, Cold Stone Creamery, Wildcraft Sourdough Pizza and Starbucks. Tickets are $75 and all proceeds will go to benefit the center, which helps children and families in need. Tickets can be purchased at www.TasteOfCulverCity.org.
