Downtown dinner series and catering company De Porres DTLA hosts a dinner party at the Think Tank Gallery in the Fabric District on Sunday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. Four courses will include roasted beet and peach salad, pulpo tiradito (made with octopus, orange and fennel), chupe de spot prawns and strawberry-black-walnut-rhubarb galette. Alma is throwing its first annual benefit dinner on Monday for the Alma Community Outreach Program. The program, founded in 2012, aims to inspire the young people of Los Angeles to kick start social change in their communities through gardening and cooking. The dinner will be prepared by chef Ari Taymor and follows a silent auction and Champagne event with items exclusive to Alma. On Friday, Lindy & Grundy will be hosting a class called Special Edition Pork 101. The class will feature a discussion on pig farming and pork butchery with pig farmer Lefty Ayers. Guests will enjoy pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw, potato salad and pickles throughout the lecture. Attendees will then learn the basics of breaking down pork hands on, followed by pork cutting and roast tying tips with Lindy and Lefty.
