Freddy Smalls’ cheesesteak, KCRW pie fundraiser, pre-concert pop-ups

Freddy’s does Philly: Freddy Smalls is serving up Philly cheesesteak sandwiches at its Westside pop-up until Friday afternoon. From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., come and get a cheesesteak sandwich with hormone- and antibiotic-free ribeye and marinated Hungarian peppers and onions for $12 and a beer for $4. 2518 W. Pie-making class: The New School of Cooking will be hosting KCRW Good Food on Aug. 14, when Sherry Yard and Evan Kleiman will demonstrate their pie-making techniques. Make a chicken pot pie with a duck fat pie crust, plum and blackberry pie with toasted almond crumble and apple pie. Guests will sample the pies and be given what Yard and Kleiman consider to be an essential pie tool. Free concert pop-ups: Before each of One Colorado Courtyard’s “Saturday Nights in August” free concerts, Sushi Roku, An American Bistro or Il Fornaio will be offering al fresco pop-up dinners for concertgoers.
