Where to get free Fosselman’s soft serve, plus drunken clams at E.P. & L.P.
If you like soft serve ice cream and hot dogs, pay attention. Dog Haus, the sausage-centric franchise known for its King’s Hawaiian roll buns and chili cheese tots, is adding soft serve to the menu. But it’s not just any soft serve; it’s Fosselman’s, from Fosselman’s Ice Cream Company, the San Gabriel Valley scoop shop that’s been around since 1919. The vanilla soft-serve ice cream will be available in a cone or a cup, along with salty caramel and Dutch chocolate milkshakes, at all 10 California Dog Haus locations, including the two restaurants in Pasadena and one in Alhambra. And if you stop by on Labor Day (Sept. 7), you can get a free cone. 93 E. Green St., Pasadena, www.doghaus.com
Looking for Labor Day plans? You could spend the day with a bunch of Aussie chefs, eating prawn toast, banh mi and drunken Cloudy bay clams in beer. E.P. & L.P. chef Louis Tikaram is inviting Aussie chefs Dan Hong (Mr. Wong, Ms. G’s, Papi Chulo, El Loco in Sydney) and Jowett Yu (Ho Lee Fook in Hong Kong) for a one-night, seven-course dinner. On the menu, which will be served family style, is mini chicken katsu banh mi; Hiramasa Kingfish and green papaya tostada with nam jim and guacamole; salt ‘n pepper lamb cutlets; New Zealand snapper curry with pickled ginger and watermelon radish; roast short rib with green shallot kimchi and soy glaze; and steamed asparagus with oyster sauce and crab meat. Dinner is at 7:30 p.m. and is $125 per person. For reservations, call www.eplosangeles.com603 N. La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood,
