Les Marchands pop-up, Ramen Yokocho, Feria de los Moles

As part of Santa Barbara culinary event Epicure SB, Hotel Milo and sommeliers Brian McClintic and Eric Railsback of Les Marchands Wine Bar & Merchant will be hosting a pop-up dinner series in the hotel’s courtyard on select Wednesday evenings in the month of October. Dinner by Les Marchands chef Weston Richards will be four courses, including smoked local mussels, risotto porchetta and bacon maple creme brulee. Only 20 tickets are available for each evening and cost $69 per seat with an optional wine pairing for $25 hand-selected by the sommeliers. 6 p.m. on Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22. Ramen Yokocho ramen festival happens at the Pomona Fairplex on Oct. 18 and 19. The Japanese noodle fest will feature ramen from the United States and Japan, including regional versions from Kurume, Tokyo, Osaka and more. The ramen shop Kohmen, known for its blend of pork- and chicken-based broth, from Ikebukuro in Tokyo will be in attendance, along with Hide-chan Ramen of Kurume. So will Wakamusha and Tanatumono from Tohoku, which will collaborate to create special miso ramen. Keizo Shimamoto of ramen burger fame will make “Burger Ramen” (not ramen burgers), a take on abura soba. with a thick tare (concentrated sauce) instead of broth. $5 admission (children 12 and younger are free); ramen is $8 a bowl, cash only. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The 7th annual La Feria de los Moles will take place on Sunday at Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles, celebrating different styles of mole, the pre-Hispanic Mexican dish, with more than 13 different kinds of mole. The annual mole competition, “Puebla vs. Oaxaca,” pits traditional versions from each state against each other. Mole workshops will be held throughout the day, and special guests include Mayor Jose Antonio Galy Fayad from Puebla and Mayor Jose Javier Villacaña Jimenez from Oaxaca. Chef Jose Cepeda Gonzalez from Puebla will give a talk about mole de Caderas, a traditional Mixtec dish from Tehuacan prepared with goat. Puebla restaurant El Mural de Los Poblanos also will present a special workshop on the creation of pipian Verde and rojo and mole poblano among others. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; entrance is free and food is available for purchase. www.feriadelosmoles.com
