Texas restaurant posts nasty sign telling off ‘rednecks’ -- or not

Share

Restaurants go out of business for all sorts of reasons. Often, the owners will post a sign thanking customers for their years of patronage, and that’s the end of it. One Texas restaurant seemed to tell the community it could take a flying leap -- and that’s putting it kindly.

A photo of a sign bearing the Sava! Italiano logo has gone viral online -- it’s crude and filled with expletives, so be warned. This image was posted Friday morning. Was it real?

Did Sava really refer to community members as “rednecks”? Did owners really claim people in the area practiced incest and that they liked to eat frozen foods exclusively?

The sign does appear to be posted behind the glass of the restaurant, which could lead one to believe someone inside the locked doors posted it. But appearances can be deceiving, especially with online photos.

Over at the Sava Facebook page was this: “Don’t believe all you hear and see folks.” That statement was posted twice within a couple of hours. It’s not exactly a flat-out denial. But one commenter suggested, with a few expletives, that the “punk” who did this should be sued.

The reply: “That’s what we’re talking about!”

A call by the L.A. Times to Sava went unanswered. So, we’re left with a whodunit. Perhaps the owners could see it as free publicity, which will come in handy as they also announced on Facebook a new location for Sava will open in Lubbock, Texas.
