Sonic Drive-In tots, shakes and more headed for Los Angeles
Sonic Drive-In, the national burger chain known for its tater tots and milk shakes, has announced a major expansion plan that will include 1,000 new locations in the next 10 years. The company plans to open 15 of those locations in the greater Los Angeles area and San Diego County.
That means a menu full of real ice cream shakes, corn dogs, molten cake sundaes, fruit slushes and flavored sodas could be headed to a city near you. Sonic also boasts more than 1 million drink and slush combinations.
There are currently 3,500 Sonic locations in 44 states, and the expansion effort will focus on new franchise opportunities.
“We know that people across the country see our commercials and crave our food -- we hear from them all the time,” said John Budd, Sonic chief development and strategy officer in a statement. “Now, we want to be able to meet the demand.”
The Los Angeles locations are scheduled to open over the next six years. The company also has set a goal of 30 drive-ins in California by 2020.
