Moonlight Bar, Golden Road expands, Produce Project’s new spot

BEHIND THE BAR: Downtown Tony’s Saloon kicks off its Moonlight Bar Series tonight with Simon Ford and David Kaplan. Ford, the bartender turned brand ambassador who helped popularize Plymouth Gin and revitalize the market for vodka, is launching a line of spirits as co-founder of The 86 Co. (“by bartenders for bartenders”), including Ford’s Gin. Kaplan is the co-founder of bar consultancy Proprietors LLC, a co-founder of Death & Co. in New York and is planning to open a downtown bar with partner Alex Day. The Moonlight Bar Series will bring local or visiting bartenders to Tony’s Saloon to make a simple menu of one shot, one beer and one three-ingredient-or-less cocktail. 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. 2017 E. 7th St., Los Angeles, (213) 622-5523, www.tonyssaloon.la.

POP-UP VEGGIES: The Produce Project, the pop-up farmers market that has been popping up at Handsome Coffee downtown on Wednesdays, is debuting its second location at Paper or Plastik on Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. Shaheda Sadhal, a former Santa Monica Farmers Market voluneteer, and Sarah Delevan set up at Handsome Coffee this summer, offering seasonal vegetables and fruit as well as eggs and chickens from Lily’s and meat from . A pop-up taco stand from Wesley Avila has accompanied the Produce Project at Handsome. And occasional appearances include those from Alexander Weiser (who brought his Hatch chile roaster last week). At Paper or Plastik, the Produce Project also is introducing an optional subscription service for weekly veggies, meats and artisan-made goods. BIGGER, MORE BEER: Golden Road Brewing has expanded its in-house pub, extended its hours to 2 a.m. nightly, added an outside lawn and created a new menu. The Lawn (i.e. Astro Turf) wraps around the side of its bright yellow warehouse space and has an additional 100 covered seats and 50 uncovered. A new can bar offers Golden Road canned beer (Point the Way IPA, Golden Road Hefeweizen and any seasonal IPAs) for $4; play the throwing game Aunt Sally on a new double pitch.
