Bourbon for dinner, Kitchen Takeover II, ‘Back at Cafe du Monde’

Bourbon pairing dinner at Cafe del Rey: On Feb. 7, chef Daniel Roberts of Cafe del Rey will be pairing a four-course menu with handcrafted bourbon cocktails from Heaven Hills Distilleries. The menu will feature dishes such as day boat scallops with fennel, faro and a vanilla-almond sauce; pork cheeks with apple and sweet potato hash; venison rack with artichokes, blood oranges, butter beans and juniper; and for dessert, spiced gingerbread served with smoked raisin compote, malted ice cream and barley tuiles. The bourbon pairing will include cocktails like a Kentucky cider, mint julep and more. Tickets are $75 per person. Kitchen Takeover II at Abigaile: On Jan. 28, six chefs from around L.A. will gather at Abigaile Kitchen in Hermosa Beach for another installment of the Kitchen Takeover dinner series. The upcoming event’s theme is “global cuisine”; Abigaile’s executive chef Tin Vuong and guest chefs will collaborate to create six courses inspired by each chef’s cultural background, whether it be Scottish, Cuban or Japanese. The Kitchen Takeover dinner series is $65 per person. A portion of proceeds will go to Ride for Autism. Meanwhile, Back at Cafe du Monde ... : Tom Bergin’s Tavern, an Irish watering hole on Fairfax Avenue, will be hosting a production of the food monologue -- and now book -- “Meanwhile, Back at Cafe du Monde...” on Jan. 27 and Feb. 11. The show on Jan. 27 will involve storytelling around food and will feature foodies such as Tom Bergin’s executive chef Brandon Boudet, writer Diana Zollicoffer, South Santa Monica owner Adam Milstein and actor Lance Spellerberg, among others. The lineup for the Mardi Gras show on Feb. 11 is still in the works and will be announced shortly. Tickets are $25 per person and include admission, beignets and Irish coffee.
