It’s fetching: Yorky, the new light from Artecnica
The Los Angeles design firm Artecnica provided a sneak peek at its new products for 2013, a lineup led by an amusing little light called Yorky. The silicone fixture can sit up, lie down or go for a little walk with its leash on the wall. York was conceived by designer Hlynur Atlason and is expected to retail for $86.

Artecnica’s other standout is Thalie, a collection of serving pieces made of intricately cut sheet metal. Each design consists of a single piece of steel, precision-cut so dozens of delicate tines can be held together by metal thread, forming the ribs of a plate, bread basket or fruit bowl. The pieces, by Swiss designer Julie Richoz, are expected to retail for $48 to $96 apiece.
For those who need a little more optimism in 2013, Artecnica also has released its Bright Side pendant lights in new white satin glass shades. Each is embossed with one of three expressions: “Always look on the bright side of life,” “In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary,” and “You can’t have light without darkness.” The lights, by New York-based Rich Brilliant Willing, are expected to retail for $98 to $110 apiece.
Artecnica is premiering these designs and others at the New York International Gift Fair, which runs through Tuesday. The new pieces are expected to hit the market in April.
