Los Angeles Times opens its seventh annual Envelope Screening Series (ESS) at ArcLight Cinema Sherman Oaks tonight with "12 Years a Slave." Immediately afterward, "Slave's" acclaimed director Steve McQueen will join actors Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong'o and Alfre Woodard, as well as cinematographer Sean Bobbitt, for a behind-the-scenes conversation with The Times' John Horn. The series will include screenings of at least a dozen award-contending movies, alongside lively and revealing Q&A discussions with the stars, filmmakers and Times writers for an audience of guild and Academy voters.

"Movies screened at ESS in previous years have gone on to receive 189 Academy Award, 127 Golden Globe and 109 BAFTA nominations," said Los Angeles Times Vice President, Entertainment and Fashion Advertising, Francie Berns. "We are proud that leading brands EPIX, American Express and Delta Air Lines recognize the power and influential reach of The Envelope and are joining us for an exciting new awards season."

The Envelope is Hollywood's awards and industry insider. For the second year in a row, premium television network EPIX will return as ESS title sponsor and official television broadcaster. EPIX will film the invitation-only Q&As, which will air in their entirety via an embedded EPIX video player on theenvelope.com and latimes.com/entertainment, as well as EpixHD.com.
