Public school salaries: In the July 25 LATExtra section, an article about an online database that details the salaries of public school employees reported that Jonathan Eagan, the principal of a junior high school in the Bay Area city of Martinez, made $279,669 in 2013. The Martinez Unified School District has said it provided incorrect compensation figures to the creators of the database. The correct figure is $139,834, according to the district.
Border crisis: In the July 31 Section A, a photo caption accompanying an article about strains on federal agencies’ budgets resulting from the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border said that millions of unaccompanied minors had surged across the border in the region near Mission, Texas. The number to enter since October is in the tens of thousands.
Ukraine: In the July 30 Section A, a photo caption accompanying an article about fighting in Ukraine and new European Union and U.S. sanctions against Russia referred to a Ukrainian city as both Lugansk (using the transliteration from Russian) and Luhansk (from Ukrainian). The Times generally uses Luhansk.
CIA apology: In the Aug. 1 Section A, an article about the CIA’s admission that employees had improperly searched a Senate computer incorrectly reported how many agency personnel were involved. A publicly released summary of the CIA inspector general’s report said that five agency employees were involved, not 10.
Oil field waste: In the July 27 Section A, an article about waste generated by oil drilling in North Dakota said that about a dozen garbage trucks visit the McKenzie County landfill each day. In fact, that many trucks arrive each hour.
