Inglewood superintendent: An article on the Inglewood School District in the Oct. 26 California section incorrectly stated that former Superintendent La Tanya Kirk-Carter was fired. Kirk-Carter was not fired; she left the school district voluntarily in June after reaching a negotiated agreement with the district. The article stated that Kirk-Carter left after the extent of the district’s financial problems was discovered. The financial problems were already known and existed before she was named superintendent. The article also stated that during Kirk-Carter’s tenure the district depleted its reserve funds, was operating at a $17.7-million deficit and had spent nearly half of its $55 million in emergency funds. In fact, according to the California Department of Education, the district had no reserves, ended the 2013-14 fiscal year with a deficit of $11.9 million and spent $10 million of its $29 million in emergency funds.

L.A. County supervisors: In the Oct. 31 Section A, an article about decisions being made by departing Los Angeles County supervisors attributed comments to Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas that made it appear that he wanted the county’s response to the Ebola threat to be left to board members being seated in December. Ridley-Thomas said that the decision to appoint a new county public health director should be left to the incoming board, not that action on Ebola should be delayed.

Sheriff’s campaign: An article in the Oct. 1 Section A about the campaign of Paul Tanaka, candidate for Los Angeles County sheriff, said that his website listed the mayors of Diamond Bar, Rosemead, Temple City, San Gabriel and Alhambra as being among his supporters. Some of them should have been described as former mayors or former vice mayors.
