Police officer slain: In the Feb. 21 Section A, an article about the fatal shooting of a Whittier police officer said that Proposition 57 had changed California’s “three strikes” law. It did not change the law. The proposition, which was passed by voters on Nov. 8, was intended to reduce the prison population. The law could allow some offenders on their second or third strike to be eligible for early parole or reduced sentences.

Academy Awards: In the Feb. 25 Calendar section, an article about costume designer Colleen Atwood incorrectly identified Patrizia von Brandenstein as the first woman to win an Oscar for costume design. She was the first woman to win an Oscar for production design.
