Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Coalinga

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon eight miles from Coalinga, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:31 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 8.7 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 20 miles from Avenal, 29 miles from Lemoore, 33 miles from Mendota and 171 miles from Sacramento.
In the last 10 days, there have been three earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
