Nearly 100 cats, dogs rescued from filthy conditions
Nearly 100 dogs and cats, many of them sick, were rescued from two homes in the Antelope Valley where the animals were living amid filthy conditions, officials said Tuesday.
A woman who was living on at least one of the properties was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, according to officials. Her name was not released.
Animal care officers served a search warrant at the homes after receiving a tip of a large number of cats and dogs living in deplorable conditions, the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control said.
The 96 animals were taken by officers and were being treated by department veterinarians. One cat was dead, according to department officials.
“Many of these animals were sick and all were living in extremely filthy conditions,” department Director Marcia Mayeda said in a statement. “The dogs and cats were scared and had varied states of medical and temperamental issues.”
