Authorities in Ventura County said Wednesday night that they had arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of cultivating hundreds of marijuana plants as part of a sophisticated indoor growing operation.

Richard Gora is accused of turning his Camarillo home into a marijuana growing site that relied on commercial-grade air filtration systems, high-powered growing lights and an illegal electrical system that bypassed his meter, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators served a search warrant at the home in the 2500 block of Barbara Drive, where authorities said about 300 plants were seized.

“A large number of plants were budding and close to being harvested,” authorities said in a statement.

Investigators said they also seized 35 pounds of dried marijuana and several thousand dollars from the sales of the drug.

Gora was being held at a county jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
