A 9-year-old boy was killed and four other family members were seriously injured when their car was rear-ended at an Anaheim intersection shortly before midnight Saturday, police said.
The driver of a Toyota pickup that slammed into the family’s vehicle was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn. He identified the driver, who was not hurt, as Gary Stephen Hunt, 41, of Orange.
The boy’s two brothers, who were sitting in the backseat with him, and his parents, who were in the front of their Toyota Camry, were all taken to local hospitals as trauma patients. Dunn said the family lives in Anaheim. Their identities were not released.
The Camry was stopped in a southbound lane of Euclid Street at the La Palma Avenue intersection when it was hit by the pickup, police said. The two vehicles then side-swiped a Honda Civic. The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries.
