Man suspected in numerous burglaries at fast-food eateries arrested
A man believed connected to more than 30 burglaries at fast-food restaurants in the Chino area was arrested Wednesday, police said.
Damian Deans, 35, of Moreno Valley, was arrested just after 3 a.m. after officers responded to a break-in at Nick’s Pizzeria in Chino, according to a statement by the city of Chino.
Police made the connection based on information Deans revealed when they interviewed him, said Chino spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden.
Deans and Sierra Gregory, 19, of Moreno Valley, were found by police in a Ford Mustang parked near the scene. The pair had outstanding warrants, prompting police to search the car, where they found items from another burglary that morning, authorities said.
In addition to Nick’s Pizzeria, Raspados Mexican Food and Chino Cafe were burglarized the same morning. All restaurants were on Riverside Drive.
But authorities said the burglaries appeared to be similar to other unsolved break-ins in the area over the last several months.
In those burglaries, thieves usually smashed a restaurant’s window to enter and then removed cash from the registers.
Deans and Gregory were held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime and outstanding warrants. They were booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
