Camarillo High School student allegedly threatened to ‘shoot up’ campus

A Camarillo High School sophomore has been arrested on suspicion of threatening to “shoot up” the campus, kill another student and then himself, authorities said Monday.

The 15-year-old Camarillo boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was cited for making threats after investigators found him at his parents’ home Thursday, said Sgt. John Franchi of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Earlier that day, deputies went to the high school in the 4600 block of Mission Oaks Boulevard and spoke to the victim and his parents about the boy’s alleged threats about carrying out a shooting on campus.

Deputies worked quickly to get more information about the threats because graduation ceremonies had already begun and thousands of people were on campus.

When they finally found the boy, he admitted to threatening the student, according to the sheriff’s department.

But he told deputies he “had no intent of carrying out the threat,” Franchi said in a statement.

The Children’s Intensive Response Team, a Ventura County-based mobile crisis service, took the boy for mental health evaluation and treatment, he said.

Deputies also removed and seized weapons from his parent’s home, he added.
