A woman speeding south on Interstate 5 through Orange County on Wednesday suddenly veered off the freeway and committed suicide, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident began around 1:10 p.m. near Doheny State Beach when a 2005 Acura RSX was spotted by Orange County Sheriff’s deputies.

The deputies learned from the woman’s boyfriend that she was suicidal, the CHP said. The chase continued southbound at speeds up to 70 mph.
