Cyclist killed in South Los Angeles hit and run
Police are looking for a driver who fatally struck a 22-year-old cyclist Sunday night in South Los Angeles and fled without stopping to help the man.
Manuel Enrique Mendoza-Hernandez of Los Angeles was riding his bicycle about 8:25 p.m. along the Slauson Avenue sidewalk east of San Pedro Place when he veered off the sidewalk and into the path of a vehicle turning right, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Mendoza-Hernandez was knocked to the ground and was run over by the vehicle, police said. The driver of the vehicle fled east on Slauson.
Mendoza-Hernandez died at the scene.
Police said no one saw the crash. But investigators recovered evidence suggesting the driver’s vehicle may have been a Toyota Corolla.
Anyone with details about the fatal crash is urged to call the LAPD Central Traffic Division at (213) 833-3713 or Det. Felix Padilla at (213) 486-0753.
