Human remains found in mountainous area near Bakersfield
Human remains have been recovered from a mountainous area near Bakersfield, authorities said Monday.
Two hikers found the remains Saturday in the mountains west of Kernville, about 40 miles northeast of Bakersfield, according to a statement from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
The remains “appeared to have been in the area for an extended period of time,” the department said.
Detectives from the coroner’s office and the Kern Valley Search and Rescue Team recovered the remains. Coroner’s investigators will try to make an identification.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (661) 861-3110.
