Coach accused of trying to have alleged molestation victims killed
A youth golf instructor in Livermore, Calif., accused of molesting some of his students tried to hire a hit man to kill three of his victims after he was caught, Alameda County prosecutors said.
Andrew Nisbet, 32, faces several felony charges, including possession and distribution of child pornography, lewd acts on a minor under 14 years old, and now, soliciting murder.
According to the Modesto Bee, prosectors added the solicitation-for-murder charge after an undercover law enforcement officer posed as a potential hit man and confirmed Nisbet’s plot during a jail visitation.
Nisbet was in jail pending trial on the molestation charges when he approached a fellow inmate with a letter asking about killing three of his victims, the Bee reported.
The inmate gave the letter to sheriff’s deputies, who joined prosecutors in setting up Nisbet to admit the plot. After the undercover agent confirmed Nisbet’s plans — which allegedly included naming the three boys and providing directions to their homes — deputies searched his jail cell and prosecutors added the additional count.
Nisbet is accused of molesting some of his male students, between 12 and 17 years old, from 2007 to 2012, according to the Bee.
Nisbet was recognized by the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation as a top teacher and was slated to receive a Junior Golf Leader Award from the PGA until he was arrested, the Bee reported.
