Long Beach man who taped girls undressing pleads guilty to child porn
A Long Beach man who pleaded guilty to possessing thousands of photos and videos of child pornography is scheduled to be sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison in October.
Paul Michael Barbour, 33, worked for Cypress-based Kids Artistic Review at Cypress College earlier this year when a young female dancer discovered a video camera in the dressing room. The camera was eventually traced back to Barbour.
A subsequent search of his home turned up “several thousand” images and 10 videos of child pornography, along with a stash of LSD and hallucinogenic mushrooms, court documents show.
Federal prosecutors charged him for the child pornography, which carries a statutory minimum of five years in prison and up to 20 years maximum. As part of a plea agreement, Barbour pleaded guilty Tuesday and will likely be sentenced to between five and 10 years, and 15 years of probation.
Officials said it did not appear he produced any of the pornography they found on his computers.
According to the federal criminal complaint, Barbour told police during an interview: “I have a mental affliction, as one would say. It’s not a good thing, and I don’t know how to rid myself of it.”
His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 20 in federal court downtown.
