A Long Beach couple are expected in court Friday to face murder charges in the death of their 1-month-old son.

Police said that Joshua Licon, 28, and Nereyda Licon, 32, were responsible for the death of their son, who wasn’t breathing when they took the baby to the hospital May 30, 2013.

Doctors pronounced the child dead and the coroner began investigating the case as a suspicious death.

The coroner described the cause of death as “sudden unexplained infant death” and said “under nutrition” was a significant contributing factor.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office issued an arrest warrant for the couple last week.

On Monday, Long Beach police said they learned the Licons were staying in an apartment in Fresno and notified local police, who arrested the couple.

The two were brought back to Southern California on Tuesday and are being held in county jail on $1 million bail.

Each is is facing one count of murder and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
