A 55-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 75 years to life in prison for stabbing his estranged wife 41 times while she was working at a Santa Monica supermarket, officials said.
Kelvin Melvin Green pleaded guilty to killing Christina Talley on Aug. 21, 2011, at an Albertson’s store on Wilshire Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The latest sentence is Green’s third strike conviction. His previous convictions were for robbery, said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
Talley was stabbed in the face and abdomen, prosecutors said. A coworker tried to intervene to stop the attack, but prosecutors said Green also assaulted him.
Before the fatal attack, Talley reportedly told Green that she was going to end their relationship.
Prosecutors said she even obtained a restraining order against Green.
