A man who was seen drenched in blood and walking down a Huntington Beach street has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a body found in a nearby apartment.
Rito Tejeda, a 22-year-old Santa Ana resident, was seen “covered in blood” shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Nashville Avenue and Delaware Street, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Tejeda was detained by police, who were initially unsure whether he was a victim or perpetrator in an altercation.
Later, “evidence led the officers” to an apartment in the 1400 block of Delaware Street where they discovered a dead man.
Authorities did not immediately release the name of the victim or say how he died. KTLA reported that the two men were friends.
