LAPD searches for BMW, Dodge Charger after a McLaren and Audi crash in possible street race
Police are investigating whether a McLaren sports car’s crash with an Audi in Woodland Hills was caused by street racing after witnesses reported seeing a black Dodge Charger and possibly a BMW flee the scene.
The two high-priced vehicles collided just before 5 p.m. Tuesday at Califa Street and Platt Avenue, said LAPD Officer Tony Im.
At least two people involved in the wreck were severely injured, said Officer Mike Lopez. The vehicles that collided were a 2015 McLaren and an Audi. Lopez said police would investigate whether the vehicles were involved in a street race.
Detectives are looking for a black Dodge Charger and a black or grey BMW that was either a 5-series or 7-series model seen driving away from the scene, Lopez said.
“Speed is obviously a contributing factor” in the crash, Lopez said.
Video from the scene of the crash showed shards of the green McClaren strewn across the road and sidewalk and its front end completely demolished.
