Beachgoers may want to pack blankets and hoodies along with sunscreen this Memorial Day weekend.

Forecasters are predicting sunny but cool weather Sunday and Monday. After morning clouds, temperatures in Santa Monica, Malibu and other county beaches will rise only into the high 60s both days, according to the National Weather Service.

“We’ve got a low-pressure area over us, and that’s going to hang around through Tuesday,” said Stuart Seto of the service’s Oxnard office.

Conditions are to warm up later in the week with above average temperatures predicted for Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, some areas of the Antelope Valley and Santa Barbara County are expected to experience high winds. The weather service has issued wind advisories from noon Sunday until 3 a.m. Monday for the Lancaster and Palmdale areas and from 6 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday in Santa Barbara County.

Blowing dust and sand and gusts up to 45 mph are predicted. The wind could make holiday weekend driving difficult for motorcycles and trailers, Seto said.
