A water main burst in Pacific Palisades on Friday, buckling a street and leaving as many as 40 customers without service.
The break was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 800 block of Las Lomas Avenue, near Sunset Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Witnesses say water flowed down Las Lomas Avenue, which is closed in the area of the breach. Sunset remained opened.
A crew is assessing the damage to the 8-inch main and beginning repairs, DWP spokeswoman Terry Schneider said. She said crews would excavate the area to access the main, fix it and put a temporary patch on the street until final repairs are made.
She could not say when the work would be completed and water service restored.
