LADWP responds to another pipe break on Sunset Boulevard

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was responding Sunday to a pipe break on Sunset Boulevard that left about 20 homes without water just days after a separate water main rupture flooded the Sunset Strip.

Crews are repairing a 12-inch cast iron pipe in the 10200 block of Sunset Boulevard that broke early Sunday afternoon, said agency spokeswoman Kim Hughes. A small stretch of the boulevard has been closed between Charing Cross Road and South Mapleton Drive.

Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Hughes said the water had been turned off and workers were beginning to dig up asphalt to get to the pipe to repair it. She said some “street damage” occurred, but called the break “more routine” than Friday’s water main break.

On Twitter, the agency said it expects repairs to be completed by 3 a.m. Monday.

Hughes said an analysis will be conducted to determine the cause of the break.
