Thunderstorms, ‘uncomfortable’ muggy weather to hit L.A. area

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across Southern California on Monday, as is the potential for flooding, meteorologists say.
A weather system hovering over Nevada is steering monsoonal moisture over Los Angeles County mountains and deserts, where residents could get drenched with up to an inch of rain, said National Weather Service meteorologist David Sweet.
Rain could hit anywhere as the system moves over the region, he said.
“We cannot rule out any area basically, even coastal areas and valleys,” Sweet said.
It is, however, moving “at a pretty good clip” and won’t hover over any one area too long, he added.
Though the cloud cover will reduce temperatures, conditions will be warm, muggy and “uncomfortable” due to the increased humidity, Sweet said.
Temperatures along the coast will be in the upper 70s, while downtown should see the mid-80s. Temperatures in the Antelope Valley could reach 100 degrees, Sweet said.
The heat and humidity is expected to gradually reduce overnight through Tuesday.
