Reader photo: Elephant parade

Share

It’s not a sight one sees everyday in Dana Point, but starting Friday, the city was been taken over by painted elephants. Placing these statues throughout the city and along the beach, The Asian Elephant Foundation is hoping to bring awareness to the Asian elephant, whose population has severely declined over the years.

Photographer Terrell C. Woods took this photo of an elephant statue — painted by Gudrun Hauseron and named “Shopping Queen” — at the beach on opening night.
