San Bernardino police investigate burning swastika on street

San Bernardino police are investigating a possible hate crime in which a wooden swastika was apparently set on fire.
Authorities said residents in the 2800 block of Sepulveda Avenue called police just after midnight Sunday to report a wooden swastika ablaze in the middle of the street.
Officers arrived and found a resident had already extinguished the fire, said Lt. Paul Williams. It was unclear whether the incident was targeted to anyone specifically.
“We need a victim to have a hate crime,” Williams said. “It’s an arson right now until we can prove the intent of the hate crime toward a specific person or religion.”
Williams said there haven’t been any other recent incidents of arson or vandalism involving swastikas and there are no suspects.
