A shooting inside a San Clemente boutique that left a married couple dead is being investigated as a murder-suicide, authorities said Sunday.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies identified the victims as John P. Dillard, 59, and Cynthia J. Rosier, 64, whose bodies were found Saturday afternoon at the Bliss Clothing Boutique on Avenida Del Mar.

Investigators believe that Dilliard entered the shop with a handgun and killed Rosier before turning the weapon on himself. No other employees of the business were injured, deputies said.

The shooting forced dozens of frightened passersby to seek safety inside adjacent stores as SWAT team members secured the crime scene.

One witness said he was arranging window displays in his nearby flower shop when he heard a disturbance outside and saw a woman run out of the boutique screaming and crying.

KTLA 5 reported that the wife owned the shop.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000 or leave anonymous tips with Orange County Crime Stoppers at (815) 847-6227.
