A man was killed early Monday after two vehicles burst into flames in a crash on the eastbound 60 Freeway, snarling traffic in Monterey Park.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert at 5:57 a.m. after the incident shut down four lanes of the freeway just west of Atlantic Boulevard.

Two lanes remained open, officials said, but it was unclear when the closed lanes would reopen.
