Two firefighters rescued from church fire after roof collapses

Two Los Angeles firefighters were rescued Tuesday morning from a burning church in South Los Angeles after a roof collapsed as they were battling the two-alarm blaze, officials said.

Firefighters were trying to get into the attic of the two-story Crouch Memorial Church of God in Christ at 1001 E. 27th St. when the roof collapsed, Capt. Jaime Moore said.

Moore said paramedics were assessing injuries to the two firefighters, who were being taken to hospitals.

Officials later said in an email alert they were “determining location/accountability for all” the more than 75 firefighters battling the blaze.

Dozens of firefighters were surrounded the church as they tried to prevent flames from spreading to adjacent structures. The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m.
